Achilles Ziakris holds a B.Mus. from the University of British Columbia and both an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Musicology from the University of Toronto, the latter degree awarded in 2005. Since then he has taught at the University of Windsor and the University of Victoria. His area of specialization is postwar European art music. Additional interests include the Broadway Musical and African American ppular music from the 1960s to the present day. He has recently submitted two articles examining the relationship between postwar French music and the politics of the Cold War. Achilles is also writing a critical biography of the composer, conductor and music critic René Leibowitz, one of Arnold Schoenberg's most consequential disciples.
